What does upwork charge freelancers?
Upwork Charges for Freelancers
Freelancers on Upwork are charged a service fee on each contract they secure. This fee is deductible from their contract earnings, meaning it gets automatically deducted when they receive payment from clients. The service fees are tiered, and here’s a look at how they work:
Fee Tiers and Charges
- 20% for the first $500 billed with the client
- 10% for lifetime billings with the client between $500.01 and $10,000
- 5% for lifetime billings with the client that exceed $10,000
Note that, above system applies to the total amount billed with a client across all contracts with them. This means that the more you work and earn with a single client, the more you could lower your Upwork service fee.
Other Fees
Further to service fees, you may also be charged:
- A $2 flat withdrawal fee for direct deposits
- Additional fees depending on the withdrawal method
- A $15 per month fee for Upwork’s Freelancer Plus plan
Please note that fees are subject to change and it’s always beneficial to check Upwork’s current pricing scheme to stay updated.
