Upwork Fees Explained

Understanding Upwork fees is crucial to plan your freelancing finances well. There are different levels of fees based on the lifetime billings you have with each client.

For Freelancers:

• 20% for the first $500 billed with the client
• 10% for lifetime billings with the client between $500.01 and $10,000
• 5% for lifetime billings with the client that exceed $10,000

Note: These fees are the same regardless of the amount of your contract.

For Clients:

If you’re hiring, Upwork charges a payment processing and administration fee. Here’s the breakdown:

• 2.75% per payment or a flat $25 per month for the ‘Plus’ plan

Additional Charges:

There may be additional charges for currency conversion and wire transfer fees if you choose a payment method outside the standard ones.
