Upwork how to track time?

Tracking Time on Upwork

Introduction

Upwork provides a user-friendly tool known as the Upwork Desktop App to help freelancers track the time they spend on projects. This is a critical aspect for hourly contracts, ensuring that work performed is correctly billed to clients.
Here is a simple guide on how to use the Desktop App to track your work time.

Downloading and Installing the Upwork Desktop App

  • After signing in, go to the Resources tab, and select Apps.
  • Select the Download App.
  • Install the application on your computer.

After installation, you should sign in using your Upwork credentials.

Tracking your time

Follow these steps to start tracking time:

  • Select the contract you will be working on from the dropdown list.
  • Add a memo line briefly detailing your current task.
  • Hit the Play button to start the timer.
  • When you’re done with your work, stop the timer by pressing the Stop button.

Note:

The Desktop App records your screen activity during your work-time. These snapshots are part of the Work Diary, and you can always delete snapshots if they reveal sensitive information.
Remember, it’s important to track only time spent working on your client’s project. Non-work related activities should not be tracked.

Manually Adding Work Time

In some cases, you may wish to add work-time manually. To do this:

  • Go to your Work Diary.
  • Select the relevant contract and date.
  • Click Add Manual Time.
  • Provide a brief note explaining the work done, select the start time, end time, and press Save.

Please remember, manual time isn’t covered by Upwork’s Payment Protection.
