How to Close a Contract on Upwork
Closing a contract on Upwork is quite straightforward. Often, clients close contracts once the job is completed, but as a freelancer, you also have the liberty to end it from your end. Here are the steps.
Step 1: Go to ‘My Jobs’
- Navigate to the ‘My Jobs’ tab on your Upwork dashboard.
Step 2: Choose the Contract
- Under the ‘Contracts’ section, find and select the contract you want to end.
Step 3: Close Contract
- Once the contract is opened, find the ‘…’ (three dots) button on the top right corner, click it, then select ‘End contract’.
Step 4: Review and Reason
- Now, you will be prompted to provide a reason for ending the contract. It could be because the job was completed, the client is not responsive, or any other appropriate reason.
- You’ll also have an option to leave a review.
Step 5: Confirm Closure
- Click on the ‘End Contract’ button to confirm.
Remember, once a contract is closed, it cannot be reopened. However, you and the client can always create a new contract. Also, be keen to maintain a healthy relationship as their feedback plays a huge role in improving your freelancing profile.
Quick Tip:
Closing a contract should ideally be a mutual agreement. It’s best to have a discussion with your client before you make the move. This will prevent any potential friction or misunderstandings while maintaining good professional relationship.
