Releasing a Partial Payment Milestone in Upwork

Unfortunately, Upwork doesn’t support partial release of a single milestone. Instead, the milestone created has to be released in full or not at all. However, there are other options you might consider.

Rework the terms with your client to divide the work and payments into smaller segments or milestones. This would give you smaller amounts spread across the duration of work more frequently.

2. Additional Milestones

Discuss with your client about creating additional milestones for excess work. The clients can create as many milestones as they wish in Upwork’s system.

Steps to Create New Milestones

• Go to My Jobs > Click on the contract title
• Under the Milestones & Payments section, you’ll see Add Milestone
• The client needs to name the milestone, describe the work & pay amount, then click Save
