Connects are necessary on Upwork to submit job proposals. They are the virtual currency used in the Upwork ecosystem to connect freelancers with potential clients. Here’s how you can acquire them:

Purchasing Connects

Basic Plan:Under the Basic Plan, freelancers can buy additional Connects to apply for more jobs. The cost is $0.15 per Connect. Plus Plan:Members on the Plus Plan, which costs $14.99/month, receive 70 Connects monthly. Additional Connects can still be purchased for the same price of $0.15 each.When buying Connects, you can choose the number of Connects you wish to purchase at the checkout, from 10 up to 80.

Earning Connects

As of now, Upwork does not offer many ways to earn free Connects. Previously, they used to offer Connects upon creating a new account, but that has been discontinued. They also used to give free Connects each month, but, unfortunately, that too has been discontinued.However, you can occasionally receive bonus Connects when you reach certain milestones, like completing the Upwork Readiness Test, or as a goodwill gesture from Upwork.
