How to Delete Messages on Upwork

Unfortunately, you cannot delete messages on Upwork.
Upwork’s architecture is designed in a way that retains all messages plus project and transaction details for fathomable record keeping. This feature allows both freelancers and clients to have full access to the entire archive of their messages.

However, you can ‘Hide’ conversations on Upwork:

• Head over to your ‘Messages’.
• Select the conversation you want to hide.
• Click on the ‘Action’ gear icon on the top right corner.
• Click ‘Hide’.

Hiding a conversation moves it to your ‘Hidden’ tab, and it won’t show up in your main ‘Messages’ anymore. But the conversation is not deleted and can be restored anytime.

Alternatively, you can ‘Archive’ job proposals:

If you want to clean up your ‘Active Proposals’ section:

• Go to ‘Jobs’ > ‘Proposals’.
• Next to each proposal, there’s an ‘Actions’ dropdown menu. Click on it.
• Select ‘Archive Proposal’.

Archiving a proposal moves it to the ‘Archived’ tab. It won’t show up in your active proposals, but you can still access it when necessary.Please note: None of these actions will permanently erase your messages or job proposals. They are just ways to organize and manage your workspace more efficiently.
