Getting Paid on Upwork

Understanding the payment timeline can be a bit confusing when you’re new to Upwork, but not to worry, I’m here to break it down for you.

In general, the money transition process in Upwork goes through a few stages, each with its own timeline.

1. The Review Period

The review period is the first part of Upwork’s payment timeline. Once you’ve submitted your work, your client has five days to review and approve it. Keep in mind that if your client doesn’t act within those five days, the payment is automatically approved and moved to the second stage.

2. The Security Period

After the review period ends, there’s a five-day security period. This is something Upwork does on their end, and you don’t have to do anything during this time.

3. Withdrawal

After those five days, the funds are released to you can withdraw them to your bank account or Upwork balance. From this point, the timeline depends on your payment method, but normally direct bank transfer usually takes an additional 2-5 business days, while PayPal or Payoneer withdrawals are immediate.

So in total…

• Five days for the review period
• Five days for the security period
• Additional few days for the bank transfer.

So it could take anywhere from 10 to 15 days for the funds to reach your account after submitting your work. Be patient, keep delivering great work and it will all work out!
