How does upwork work?
Upwork is a platform that connects freelancers and clients from all over the world. Here’s a basic rundown of how it works:
1. Create a Profile: As a freelancer, your first step is to create a professional profile. This needs to highlight your skills, qualifications, services you offer, and your portfolio if any.
2. Browse Jobs: Once your profile is completed and approved, you can start browsing through jobs posted by clients. These jobs can be hourly or at a fixed price, dependent on the client’s preference.
3. Submit Proposals: If you find a job you’re interested in and qualified for, you can send a proposal to the client, detailing how you plan to carry out the project and why you’re the best fit. This proposal costs you “Connects”, which are essentially tokens you spend to apply for jobs. You receive a set amount of these for free every month, with the option of buying more.
4. Interview: If the client is interested in your proposal, they may initiate an interview. This is usually a text chat, but could be a phone or video call as well.
5. Project Work: If the client is satisfied with your proposal and interview, they’ll offer the job to you. Once you accept, you can start working on it.
6. Take Payment: When the job is completed and your client is satisfied, they’ll pay you through Upwork’s secure payment system. Upwork will then take a service fee before paying you.
7. Feedback: After you’re paid, both you and the client can leave feedback for each other. This feedback is public, and a good feedback score can help attract more clients in the future.
Remember, success on Upwork often comes to those who persist and continually improve their skills, as well as their proposal-writing abilities. Stick with it, and don’t be discouraged by early setbacks.
