Upwork client accepted work, now what?
Next Steps After a Client Accepts Work on Upwork
Introduction
Congratulations on getting your work accepted by a client on Upwork! As a new freelancer, this is a big achievement. Here are some steps you need to take after a client accepts your work:
Close the Contract
First, you need to end the contract from your end on Upwork. This is because Upwork does not automatically close contracts once work is completed and accepted.
Steps to Close a Contract
- Go to ‘My Jobs’.
- Find the contract you want to end and click ‘End contract’.
- Select the reason for ending contract.
- Write a private feedback for the client.
- Click ‘End Contract’.
Wait for Client’s Feedback
Once you’ve closed the contract, your client will be notified to leave feedback. You won’t be able to see their feedback until you’ve provided feedback for them or after a 14-day period ending soon after the contract is closed.
Ensure You Get Paid
You need to make sure that you get paid for your work. If it is an hourly contract, Upwork guarantees payment if you follow the hourly payment instructions. For fixed-price contracts, the client’s payment will be deposited in escrow at the beginning of the contract. Once you’ve submitted your work, the client should release the payment to you.
Thank Your Client
Consider sending your client a thank you note or offer to assist in any future work. This can help build long-term working relationships, potentially leading to more contracts.
Look for New Jobs
Finally, you should start looking for new jobs to keep your workflow steady. Don’t rely on just one client; diversify and increase your work opportunities on Upwork.
