When do i get paid on upwork?
Payment Process on Upwork
Payment on Upwork depends on what type of contract you have with your client.
Below, I’ve outlined the two main types: Hourly contracts and Fixed-price contracts, and when you get paid for each respectively.
Hourly Contracts
With hourly contracts, you submit work through the Upwork desktop app which tracks time and takes screenshots while you work. This ensures that you are automatically covered by Upwork’s Hourly Protection. Here’s how it works:
- Week – You log hours for a particular week (Monday-Sunday).
- Review – Your client then has until the following Friday to review your work.
- Payment – The payment is then processed to you on the subsequent Wednesday (nearly two weeks later).
Fixed-Price Contracts
For fixed-price contracts, payment depends on the milestones set between you and your client. The payment is released once you submit the work and the client approves it. Here’s the sequence:
- Milestone Completion- You complete tasks for a particular milestone as agreed with your client.
- Submission- You submit your work on the platform.
- Approval- The client reviews the submitted tasks. If they are satisfied, they approve the milestone.
- Payment- Upon approval, Upwork releases the payment for that milestone to your available account balance.
Keep this in mind
Please note, after the payment has been processed to your Upwork account, you can then withdraw it to your personal account. Withdrawals often take a few days to process due to bank processing times.
Hope this helps!
