How Upwork works for clients

Introduction

Upwork provides an efficient platform for clients to connect with freelancers all over the world. To get started, clients need to create a client account, post a job, review proposals, interview prospective freelancers, hire, set project tasks, and finally, make payments upon project completion. The steps are as follows:

Creating a Client Account

Firstly, go to the Upwork homepage and click on ‘Sign Up’. Specify your account as a ‘Client looking to hire’. Provide the necessary details and then click ‘Get Started’.

Post a Job

After creating your account, your next step is to post a job. This should include the project title, category, subcategory, job description, project length, the expertise level of freelancer you are looking for, and how you want to pay them.

Review Proposals

Once posted, freelancers will begin to submit proposals for your job. You can view these proposals and check each freelancer’s profile, job success score, client reviews, portfolio, and any tests they’ve completed.

Interviewing and Hiring

• Begin interviewing potential candidates for the job by sending them a message through Upwork’s messaging system. This is a chance to ask any additional questions you may have.
• When you find a freelancer you would like to hire, click ‘Hire’ on their proposal. You’ll then set up a contract with them.

Setting Up Tasks and Milestones

If you chose a fixed price contract, you’ll set milestones which act as mini-deadlines each with their own budgets. You fund these in advance and only release the payment when you are satisfied with the work.

Making Payments

Payment is released through the safe Upwork system. There is an automatic billing system for hourly contracts, and for fixed price contracts, funds are released as each project milestone is met. Always ensure work is completed to satisfaction before releasing payments.
