Upwork when will i get paid?

Understanding Payment on Upwork

Understanding how and when you get paid on Upwork can be a bit confusing, especially for a novice freelancer. This brief guide will help clarify the payment process for you.

Step 1: Finish the job.

Upon successfully completing a job that you were hired for, your client will pay Upwork.

Step2: Review Period.

There’s a review period that lasts for 5 days. During this time, Upwork evaluates the payment to ensure everything is in order.

Step 3: The Payment is Cleared.

For hourly contracts:

  • For hourly contracts, clients are billed every Monday for the prior work week. After the review period, the funds become available on the next Wednesday
  • For fixed-price contracts:

  • For fixed-price contracts, upon approving the milestone, the funds usually reflect in the freelancer’s account after the 5-day review period
  • Further Guidelines:

    Please do note:

    • Make sure to always record your time with the Upwork desktop app. Only the hours it records are protected under Upwork Hourly Protection.
    • If a client pays a bonus, the funds are usually available after the standard 5-day review period.
    • All payments are made via the method you choose in your settings—direct deposit, PayPal, wire transfer, etc.

Remember, good communication with your client is key. Don’t hesitate to reach out to them if there are any issues regarding payment.
