Upwork Fees for Freelancers

Understanding Upwork’s fee structure is crucial as a freelancer using the platform. Here is a comprehensive breakdown:

1. Freelancer Service Fees

Upwork charges freelancers and agencies a sliding fee based on the lifetime billings with a specific client. Here’s how it works:

• 20% for the first $500 billed with the client
• 10% for lifetime billings with the client between $500.01 and $10,000
• 5% for lifetime billings with the client that exceed $10,000

2. Payment Processing Fees

Beyond the service fees, there is a payment processing and administration fee on all payments. This fee is currently set at 2.75%.

Please Note:

Fees are taken out of the total amount that you charge to your client. Ensure you factor this into your pricing. For instance, suppose a project is billed for $1000. Your earning before payment processing fees would be $900, not the full $1000.
