How to log time on upwork?
Logging Time on Upwork
Logging time on Upwork is pretty straightforward. You’d primarily need to use their desktop app, which allows you to track and log hours spent on a contract. Upwork’s Work Diary keeps a record of this, which is critical for protection under their Hourly Payment Protection.
Installing the Upwork Desktop App
- Download the app. Downloads are available on the Upwork’s website.
- Once downloaded, install the app on your system, accepting the terms and conditions.
Logging Time
To track time with the Upwork desktop app, follow the steps below:
- Open the app and log in with your Upwork credentials.
- Choose the contract you’re currently working on from the drop-down list at the top.
- Add a memo (optional). Memos help your client understand what you’re doing and can provide some context for the screenshots taken by the app.
- Click on the ‘Start Tracking’ button. The app will take screenshots at random intervals to show your client that you’re actively working.
- When you’re done working, hit the ‘Stop Tracking’ button.
Please note, manual time does not have Upwork’s Hourly Payment Protection.
Tips for Effective Time Logging
- Ensure the app is actively tracking time while you’re working.
- Avoid idle time—you should pause tracking if you take breaks or are not actively working. The app can recognize long periods of inactivity.
- Provide useful, clear memos—it’ll help you to effectively communicate your work to the client.
- Review your Work Diary daily. This will allow you to make sure all hours worked were properly logged.
Remember, building trust with your clients is key! Accurate time tracking can help foster that trust.
