What are Upwork Connects?

Upwork Connects are virtual tokens or credits used on the Upwork platform to apply for jobs. In essence, Connects serve as a type of application currency. Instead of unlimited job applications, freelancers use a certain number of Connects to apply for each job, depending on the job’s nature and size.

Why are Connects Important?

• Limiting applications: Since connect costs are associated with submitting proposals, freelancers will be thoughtful and selective in submitting proposals. This makes for a better experience for clients who might otherwise be overwhelmed by numerous applications.
• Even playing field: Connects help create a fair play environment. All freelancers are given an equal chance based on the connects they have allowing competition based on talent and skills and not simply on the number of proposals sent.
• Resource allocation: It ensures efficient allocation of resources. Freelancers put their Connects where they believe they have the best shot, and clients receive proposals from freelancers who are genuinely interested in the job.

How can I get Connects?

You can get Connects in two ways on Upwork:

• You are awarded a basic number of free Connects when you sign up. However, you may need to purchase additional Connects in order to apply for more jobs.
• You receive additional Connects as part of a monthly subscription to Upwork plans such as Upwork Plus, which comes with additional benefits like viewing the high and low bids on a job.
