Acquiring Upwork Connects

Hello, and welcome to Upwork! Getting to grips with the platform and its terminology can be tough when you’re first starting out, but not to fear, you’re in the right place. Upwork Connects are instrumental when initiating your freelancing journey on the platform.

What are Upwork Connects?

Connects are virtual tokens you use to submit proposals for jobs. In practical terms, they are much like ‘bids’ you place on projects; the more you have, the more jobs you can apply for.

Getting Connects

There are mainly two ways to get Connects on Upwork:

• Purchasing Connects: You can buy Connects from the Upwork platform itself. There is a ‘Buy Connects’ option under your profile settings from where you can buy more Connects. Connects cost $0.15 each and are sold in bundles of 10, 20, 40, 60, and 80.
• Monthly Connects: Connects are also included in both Upwork Basic and Plus membership plans. A Basic plan gives you 10 free Connects each month, while a Plus membership gives you 80 Connects each month.

Conserving your Connects

While it might be tempting to apply for every job you see, it’s a good idea to save your connects for ones you’re incredibly interested in or exceptionally fit for. By selectively applying for jobs, you’ll better manage your resources, and potentially increase your chance of getting hired.

It’s also worth noting that unused Connects roll over from month to month if you have a Plus membership, but only up to 140 Connects.
