How Upwork Pays Freelancers
Upwork Payment Methods
Upwork offers several payment methods for freelancers. These include:
- Direct to U.S. Bank (ACH): This is free and generally takes 1-2 business days.
- Wire Transfer: It charges a fee of $30. The time to receive payment can vary anywhere from 1-3 business days.
- Payoneer: This is a third-party payment method that may charge fees. Time to receive payment can vary.
- Paypal: This is another third-party method that may charge fees. You can typically receive payment instantly.
Understanding Billing Cycles
Once a client has confirmed and sent payment, it typically takes 5 days for funds to be available, due to the security period.
For hourly contracts, invoices are created and processed every Monday. The funds are available 10 days later, on the following Wednesday.
For fixed-price contracts, the funds become available after the client reviews and approves the work, and then 5-day security period.
Remember to choose the payment method that’s most convenient for you, taking into account potential fees and waiting periods. Always deliver high-quality work and communicate effectively with your clients to ensure smooth transactions.
